Nage no kata
Nage no kata (Forms of Throwing)
This is a judo kata and it is one of two randori no katas. Idea of Nage no kata is to illustrate various concepts of nage-waza , throwing techniques. The nage no kata was developed by Jigoro Kano as a method of illustrating principles of throwing to allow students to more effectively apply them in randori.
Nage No Kata series
Te-waza (手技, hand techniques)
Koshi-waza (hip techniques)
- Uki goshi – floating half-hip throw
- Harai goshi – sweeping hip throw
- Tsurikomi goshi – lifting/pulling hip throw
Ashi-waza (foot techniques)
- Okuriashi harai – sliding foot sweep
- Sasaee tsurikomi ashi – Propping and drawing ankle throw
- Uchi mata – inner thigh throw
Ma-sutemi-waza (rear sacrifice techniques)
Yoko-sutemi-waza (side sacrifice techniques)
Each of these 15 techniques is performed two times in the specified order, both right and left handed. The kata is generally performed in a strictly formalized manner with clearly defined rules of etiquette.
