Kodokan Goshin jutsu

Forms of Kodokan Self-Defense

Kodokan Goshin jutsu represents a form of judo self defense displayed in two sections unarmed one in addition to armed one. This is the youngest kata in judo created in 1956.  It also shows the influence of Kenji Tomiki, one of Professor Kano’s students, who also studied Aikido under the founder of Aikido.

Kodokan Goshin jutsu in short
Toshu-no-bu (Unarmed section):

1. When held
Ryote-dori Hidari-eri-dori Migi-eri-dori Kata-ude-dori Ushiro-eri-dori Ushiro-jime Kakae-dori
2. When attacked from distance
Naname-uchi Ago-tsuki Ganmem-tsuki Mae-geri Yoko-geri

Buki-no-bu (Weapons section):

1. against Tanto or Dagger
Tsukkake Choku-tsuki Naname-tsuki
2.against Jo or Staff
Furi-age Furi-oroshi Morote-tsuki
3. against Pistol
Shomen-zuke Koshi-gamae Haimen-zuke
